Re: HP OS Recovery Disc-Hp Recovery Manager

Could you try booting from the Recovery Disk again and make a note of exact error message? This could point to bad CD/DVD drive, bad hdd, bad Recovery set,etc,etc.

Re: HP OS Recovery Disc-Hp Recovery Manager

I have an HP Touchsmart 300-1020 running Windows 7-64bit.   I am getting an error that a device is not present, and to insert system installation disk when I try recovery.  Is there a boot disk I can use somewhere to access the partition with the install software on it, and reinstall the OS?

Re: HP OS Recovery Disc-Hp Recovery Manager

I have replaced the drive in my P6130y and I cannot get the recovery disc to work.  It worked fine the first disc I put in but froze on #2 and I cannot get it to go back into Recovery Manager to restart the recovery -- I have done all suggestions that I see on the forum and on HP support.  Any suggestions?   Thanks

Re: HP SO Recovery Disc-Hp Recovery Manager

Thank you for getting back to me when you did - as you can see, my hurry then changed a bit, and i have been away unable to correspond.

Doesn't change the fact that the discs never worked!

I just tried it again, and made sure the boot sequence read from the CD drive first...

I loaded the CD's, after several minutes of what I thought was going to be good, I got the same error message;

"This PC is not supported by the System Recovery Discs. You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs."

I wanted to start from scratch, like it was new, and I can't even do that...

I ordered this direct from HP: Order # FUN20201, 5/24/11.

I have an HP Pavilion a6200n

Vista Home Premium

I included product numbers, s/n and vista codes on the website - this is the disc that was sent (actually 3 - 2, plus a supplemental) -

I hope you could help a little more with the above.

Tom

@lakeville-tom

Welcome back. Sorry to see the problem is still with you.The error you are getting usually refers to an incomplete /incorrect tattoo string in the BIOS.Recovery checks the BIOS to be sure the disks are being used on an HP machine ,or the correct HP machine.Unfortunately this requires service from HP authorized Service Center to fix.

Of course there is always the chance that HP actually sent the wrong set. Or I have seen an error (rare) if the video card has been changed. I have even seen at least one case where the owner had to remove the original video card and use onboard graphics connection to get the Recovery set to work.

Have you tried holding /tapping the F11 key immediately after powering on to see if Recovery from the hdd partition works?

Re: HP SO Recovery Disc-Hp Recovery Manager

I have a Pavilion p6302f that has had all partitions removed and Windows XP Pro installed with drivers from HP. Works fine.

I have the need to return it to factory defaults. The 3 DVD set that I had created on purchase fail by having all recovery manager options grey'd out.

I ordered one recovery disk set from HP and received two sets - identical.

I get that message that I cannot use these discs to recover this system.

I called support at HP and spent an inordinate amount of time speaking with a fellow reading scripts in Mumbai, India. He struggled to grasp the situation, but verified that I had been shipped the correct recovery discs. He promised to call back in 30 to 60 minutes after he did some more 'research' into the problem. I have not had a return call in three hours and I did verify that he had my correct phone number.

What gives? Nothing has changed with the hardware. It is only one year old. The HD tests fine, - as I stated it runs Windows XP Pro great.

Perhaps HP could be so kind as to ship a generic copy of Windows 7 for the rebuild as their Recovery tool is not working for me.

Re: HP OS Recovery Disc-Hp Recovery Manager

Hi

My PC is around 6 yrs old. It is a Compaq Presario SR1421UK, product py097aa. In the past i have done Recovery, both destructive and non-destructive. Compaq used to provide an option in PC Tools, where I could recover applications or system. However, ever since I updated to WinXP SP3, that option no longer exists.

A couple of years ago, I bought System Revovery disks. I received 2 disks in the post, and although they worked before, now after inserting the main disk, it is ejected and does not recognise it. Please help, as my System Restore function no longer works and i am having major problem reinstalling MS Office??
