I have a COMPAQ desktop product #DW255A-ABA, that appears to have a failed CPU

[ Edited ]

The power supply LED flashes until the CPU is unplugged and then is a steady green.  How can I get the HDD info from this desktop to my replacement desktop?

Depends on what model/age the replacement is.Most newer machines have SATA hdd and your old machine has an IDE hdd. Best option to have access to files, etc on the hdd is to install it in a  USB Enclosure such as HERE that can be plugged into  a USB port of another machine.

Thanks for the info.  The replacement machine is a COMPAQ CQ5600F, product #BM411AA#ABA, S/N: 3CR0360FDQ which purchased in early November 2011 and found out that the warrany expired at the end of November 2011 since the machine was produced in 2010.

You can see the motherboard specs for your new machine HERE.It has only SATA ports so it will not accept your old hdd. Best option is using the USB enclosure as mentioned above
