Network issues

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-130f Desktop PC running Windows 7 64 bit.

Having networking issues with computer repair guys wanting to take the PC & do a start over restore.  Can connect to the internet just fine.  2nd PC (wifes laptop) connects just fine.  All attempts to network are not working.  She runs a 2nd seat for business software ... won't connect.  Homegroup ... doesn't work.  X-box ... won't connect to Windows Media Center on the PC (connects fine to the internet, as does the Tivo ... both hardwired).

When I run HP diagnostics I'm getting the message No Connection on the Internet Communication Test (all other tests pass).  Says it can't find HP, MSN.com or Google ... this with IE open & running on the PC.

Fixes tried so far ... 4 hours with local repair guys ... no luck.  On-line tech support from software vendor ... could not the software recognized ... no port access.  This was with all firewalls off.  Did a system restore ... no luck.  Replaced & upgraded router based on recommendation from computer repair guys (to Cisco E4200) ... also no luck.

Only other variable was installation & run of Auslogics Bootspeed ... somewhat coincides to start of problem but not totally.  So trying to avoid a complete restore as it creates a lot of issues ... any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hello wildwillies, Have you tried setting up the Network and Sharing Center in the Control Panel?

You must file share all the systems. It would be advisable to disable passwords.

The Work network appears to be better than a Home network.

In the Network and Sharing Center, look in the upper left corner and click on advanced settings.

Turn on Network Discovery, File Sharing, Turn on Public Folder sharing, Turn on Meadia sharing, Turn off password protection sharing, Allow Windows to Manage Homegroups, Turn off Password protected sharing.

With all of these settings configured, you MUST have a very good router, and Internet Security application.

When all these settings have been made, disconnect the power cord from the modem and router, reconnect the power cord to the modem and when the lights stop blinking, connect the power cord to the router and when the lights stop blinking, reboot the system, and then see if you can connect to the other systems on the network.

These settings will need to be made on every system that you want to connect to on the network.

Re: Network issues

Got the Home Groups to work ... still having issues with the 2nd seat (will not connect) & gettinge Windows Media Center to see the Xbox (does not recognize the Extender).  Supect some conflict in the Firewall settings / port recognition but with the Firewalls still off & with the same problem with 2 different routers completely stuck.

Any other suggestions?

Hello wildwillies, Not quite sure about your reference to the second seat. If you are using wireless access point routers, you would need to configure them to connect to the parent wireless router mac address.

These need to know which wireless router they should be connecting to . It seems you must have a very elaborate wireless network.
