Windows only recovery

I have a six month old HP 6717 system with Win7 64bit.  I would like to do a recovery, but I don't want to install all of the junk software that is installed doing a default recovery.  Is there any way to do a recovery, and only install Windows and then let me decide what other software I want to install?

Please use plain text.

Re: Windows only recovery

Please identify your PC with the entire p/n. My HP Pavilion notebook is a dv7-4180ea. Include all alphanumeric characters. You can find the p/n in the bottom of the HP Support Assistant window.

Kind regards,
erico

Take a read of this HP document. which explains the options available in various versions of the HP Recovery Manager. What you are probably looking for is called a Minimized Image Recovery.

Minimized Image Recovery  removes all partitions, reformats the entire hard drive, re-installs the original operating system and hardware drivers.  It re-installs HP essential software (i.e., HP Support Assistant, HP Recovery Manager, etc.), but does not install the trial applications and games.

Re: Windows only recovery

erico's suggestions are valid and may do exactly what you want done with Your Windows 7 installation. There is, however, another method that allows you to install Windows 7 without any HP branding, HP software, HP drivers, third party software, or trial software. This requires you to install HP drivers from the web or OEM drivers from the respective manufacturer's site. If you wish to do something along these lines, please PM (private message) me for detailed instructions.
