wireless keyboard will not connect, while mouse does plus recovery destroyed "My Documents"

I am a computer tech. I was called to fix a HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7360n Desktop PC where the external HP printer stopped working after the owner of the computer accidently hit "recovery", which deleted all her docs, email addresses, etc.

I have seen a post here about someone not being able to complete a recovery and their wireless mouse and keyboard didn't work. My problem is the wireless keyboard simply stopped working. The wireless mouse works fine. I have put new batteries in the keyboard and I have tried to re-sync the keyboard, but to no avail. I have unplugged the wireless USB reciever and plugged it.

into another USB port, but I still cannot get the keyboard to work.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you installed the chipset drivers?

If the operating system is Windows XP have you installed the USB drivers?

If you plug the USB reciever into a USB port does the operating system respond to it?

Kind regards,

No, I have not, but I will.

Hmm, I didn't see a separate USB driver in the HP software, but I'll look again.

Yes, when I unplug and then plug in the USB receiver, WIndows XP does see. The mouse works fine, it's the wireless keyboard that will not respond.

Re: wireless keyboard will not connect, while mouse does plus recovery destroyed "My Documents&

I installed the chipset drivers, but the wireless keyboard stil doesn't work. I then disconnected all USB devices and also disconnect the wireless receiver, then I plugged the wireless receiver back in. I did not reconnect any of the other USB devices (printer, etc). I tried to resync the keyboard, but the keyboard still does not work.

The wireless mouse works great....it only the wireless keyboard that is not working. Does anyone have any other ideas. This is driving me crazy.

Is there a special driver for the wireless keyboard? I see the software/driver for the wireless keyboard, but shouldn't the keyboard work without the HP media software for the keyboard? I know it wouldn't have all the bells and whistles that the keyboard has, but it should simply be able to type with standard Windows drivers; yes?
