Hi,

 

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue. Could not find anything but just to update the driver but it still has not solve the issue.

 

Issue:

I have an HP ultrabook laptop i5 core. I am using and extra monitor to extend my laptop screen. Using HDMI to dvi connector. Installed it last wednesday 3/8/17. plug and play worked great for 3 days. On sunday I turn on my laptop and just a blank screen on the extra monitor. It took me forever to try an figure it out. My screen screen resolution reset to just the laptop. When I hit the option to extend the monitor still nothing, but it says displaying in VGA. The monitor is still not working. So I installed a VGA cable nothing.  I almost did a system restore but I was hesitant I might lose all my files. So I updated the driver from the intel download section and installed it. It worked. But when I reboot the display adapter resets to just laptop again. When I extend the option nothing. When I hit the roll back driver option it works SMH. reboot and the display adapter resets. Wneh I update the driver it works. Oh man. I hate to do this everytime. its driving me crazy. I got help from INTEL SUPPORT. I updated to the latest driver and still same issue. I was told to come here for help.  Any help will be greatly appreciated. TY

That is correct.

 

That happens because it is a laptop. The BIOS will not see it as an available display until you are logged into Windows.

 

 You will have to do it every single time.

 

That won't change. That is Windows.

Does the ultrabook still boot to Windows with nothing connected?

 

If it does, use a HDMI to HDMI adapter to connect to a display or HDTV.

 

Power on your notebook and when in Windows, hold down the Windows key and tap the P key. You will see PC screen only, Duplicate, Extend and second screen only. I suggest using Duplicate mode, initially.

 

That will put the notebook in presentation mode and should allow you to duplicate the ultrabook's display to the display it is connected to.

 

BTW The Intel HD Graphics 4000 is a system on the installed processor and is not an adapter. It is called SoC, or system on a chip.

Yes the ultrabook boots to windows when nothing is connected.

 

I did what you had asked with HDMI to HDMI. Works!

 

What would you like me to do next?

the only thing that I know that remains to do is to set the display mode.

 

Hold down the Windows key while giving a single tap to the P key.

 

That will invoke  presentation mode.

 

It will enable you to select the presentation mode that you want to use.
