Hello Travis_c

I did as you said, uninstalled the drives and put the card back restarted the PC and windows auto install the drivers but nothing worked.

I put back the old card and found out that the MAC is the same with that of the new card. But that can not be correct as every card is to have its own MAC address. I do not know the reason for this but it looks as if the system cant get to differentiate between the cards.I think the MAC address on the PC now should be from the old card and some how is blocked in the system.

I am not a PC specialist just speculation.

Thanks for your help.

Hello chuckiman

It is definitely weird that two network cards would share the same MAC address. A MAC address is the physical address that is in the card and each network interface should have a unique MAC Address.

The Realtek adapter shows the physical address as 70-71-BC-61-B0-9A, is that the same as the other card? Also it states that the media is disconnected, did you have the ethernet cable connected at the time you ran "ipconfig /all"?

Do you use the wireless adapter? I notice that your wireless card has some data and IP addresses set. What is your wireless card and how is it setup? From your post it does not contain a MAC Address and has some strange formatting problems. I have never seen an IP Address that includes multiple zeros when they are not needed. I am referring to "192.000.0.2". The other thing about that adapter that sticks out is the DNS server IP is not normal. I personally have not seen the network address "192.0.0.0" as the DNS server.

The Tunnel Adapter can be ignored unless you use tunneling protocols and/or VPNs.

Hello again Travis_c

Yes,really when i realised that the same MAC was there after changing the network card i could not believe it.

I had to change them again to be very sure that it was the same MAC.

I edited the ipconfig/all test. This is the unedited version.

The cable is connected and is always connected.

Yes i use my wireless connection as is the only way for me to connect to the net.

I have been thinking about the problem with the MAC of the Ethernet card,I do not know but may be the problem is with the BIOS?

Hello chuckiman

Thanks for re-posting the unedited version.

Also you may be on to something. Since the specifications for your computer's motherboard indicates that the LAN adapter is integrated, it makes me wonder if the card you bought is just the interface itself but the chip and MAC address is integrated into the motherboard. Can you post the same information that you posted above, but with the Ethernet cable attached? I want to see if the ipconfig /all reports if the media is connected or disconnected.

Hello Travis_C

This is another test as the first, still with the cable connected but this time with the old Ethernet card.

I have also posted a picture of part of the motherboard were the Ethernet card sit.Ethernet card.jpg

Take a look at the MAC. It is the same for two Ethernet Cards.

Hello chuckiman

With the I/O (Input/Output) card installed does the USB ports and audio work? I am interested if the problem is just the networking. I am leaning towards the problem being with the software and not the hardware so it would be good to test if the other parts of the hardware are working or not.

Also one of the reasons I am leaning towards it being a software issue is the nature of the problems you are experiencing. Mainly the duplicate MAC address and the network card showing in Device Manger without the card being installed.

Good day Travis_c

The USB ports are working fine,My printer (HP deskjet 5550) is connected on one and (HP USB flash Drive 16 GB) is connected on another all are working.

My audio Amplifier is connected to the audio out and is also working fine. the problem is just with the networking port.

Thanks.

Hello chuckiman

Since the USB and audio are working with the card it seems to me that the hardware/card is working correctly, which reaffirms my suspicion that the problem is related to the software.

How many adapters do you see under View Network Connections? You should see your wireless card and the ethernet. I am curious as if you have multiple showing.

1.Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type adapter, and then, under Network and Sharing Center, click View network connections.

While we have gone through some of the stuff in this article you may want to go through it. The article is written by Microsoft on how to fix network adapter problems. How do I fix network adapter problems?

Hi Travis_c

Yes under view network connection there are two adapters, wireless and Ethernet. The Ethernet is Enabled but says Network cable unplugged but really my network cable is connected.

I have carried out all the recommendation on HOW DO I FIX NETWORK ADAPTER PROBLEMS but still nothing.

To add,The network adapter card is having two LED the Active and Status LED.The Active LED is suppose to light up when the PC is turn on but mine blinks 2 to 3 times when i turn the PC on and stay off all the rest of the time.

I do not know the reason for that as windows recognises the Ethernet card.In the BIOS configuration setup the card is Enable. In Device manager under the Ethernet Adapter it say the drivers is up to date.

I have just one thing remaining the BIOS, May be there is a problem with the BIOS After the thunder storm

that damage the first Ethernet card and the BIOS is not controlling the card? What do you think about that?

Thanks for your help.
