computer will not boot up

I get a black screen with "Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press Enter.

I do this and run the test and the only failed result says "Disk 0 Drive Cache Test Failed".

I don't understand what this means.

Re: computer will not boot up

IDU_341, welcome to the forum.

When requesting help, you should always include the make/model of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them.

I believe that you have a failed hard drive.  Once I have the model of the computer, I will be able to tell you how to diagnose it farther.

Re: computer will not boot up

[ Edited ]

My computer information is ::

Product # GC674AA

S/N # {Removed for privacy}

HP PAVILION MEDIA CENTER m8120n

When I turn my computer on I get this message ::

Dist boot failure. Insert system disk and press Enter

I follow the instructions and it does a Fixed Disk Test

One failure in the test shows up ::

disk 0 drive cache test failed

I have tried to use the System Restore key but it does not work. The computer goes back to the black screen message of "Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press Enter"

I have used F10 and see that my hard drive is recognized.

Hitachi HDT725032VLA380

SN: {Removed for privacy}

REV: V540A7BA

I do not understand what a failed hard drive means I have more then one hard drive on this pc.

Any further assistance would be really appreciated!

Thank you, Leona

Leona, a failed hard drive means that it is no longer working properly.  The drive that is no longer working is the boot drive or drive with the operating system (Vista) installed.  Here is a section that will give you some help with troubleshooting the drive.  The item titled "Testing the Hard Drive Using SMART" will be particularly helpful.
