I have a HP Touchsmart. My hard drive died.  Same Seagate Barricuda model and serial number as above.  I tried several local computer specialists.  No one could help.  All said I'd have to send it off to a "clean room" for very expensive data retrieval service.  I didn't feel comfortable trying the fix on my own. Luckily, I found Wayman Ng referenced on the message boards.  Wayman fixed my drive!  I highly recommend him to anyone having the same problem.  He's quick, professional and his rates are very reasonable.  Thanks, Wayman.

Does anyone in the UK offer the same service as Wayman? I've suffered the same fate as many a failed drive, not seen in the BIOS. Or is there a way of updating the firmware with a HD that won't boot, say via another computer with HD connected via a docking station?

Hi,

Sounds promissing but ... did your IQ TouchSmart (I have IQ522) booted into Windows or stopped at blue HP screen without any further action ?

In my case the IQ522 TouchSmart stays in this blue HP screen and doesn't move any further into Windows system. The F-key commands doesn't work either.

I was thinking that maybe it is caused by the Seagate harddisc, which as I've noticed on various forums, is bad - I have the Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500620AS model with firmware HP24.

Can you or somebody else help me to identify the cause of my problem with computer not starting up and recommend corective actions, pleaseeee.

Regads,

Konrad

Humm ....guess I should of read this post  before  I posted my question in another area .... but I didn't look in Touchsmart section ...mine is a CTO slimline desktop ..but has  the same HDD ..did the firmware update H-26 a  year ago .. the only thing I can say is that it lasted just out of warrenty ... thought it was HDD failure  but maybe  not so much as a BIOS failure as well ...changed  out the HDD to another brand .. suggested solution was to partition the  New HDD and  use my recovery disks ..now I'm showing a BIOSHD-2 error with the New Drive WHEN  it showes up in BIOS ...  exhibits the same behavior as here even with  a New HDD and my Recovery disks I made from the one time offer as soon as  I got it  won't work  ...Strange  I can put in an my old Windows XP 32 bit recovery disk and it recognises that .. but my Computer came with Vista Home Premium 64 bit so I backed out of recovery and did not install XP ..... I'm not even sure I can install XP 32 bit on on it .. so I guess that is my first question ...and even if I can ..with the BIOS exhibiting  sometimes I see it sometimes I don't  to the New HDD am I just waisting my time and money on it ??? and if this was an issue why did HP keep putting them in and the firmware updates only seem to prolong this crash  ??? ..any suggestion  would be appreciated ... I'm not worried about the datd .. I had just backed up  my data to an external HDD  but makes me nervous with it being a Seagate HDD as well ... lol

I have just had my drive back from Wayman, he has installed the new firmware in my bricked drive, I'm based in the UK.

Wayman kept me posted throughout the process and he was able to turnaround the drive in a couple of days the whole process from UK and back took 15 days sent by mail. Total bill including all the postage was £76, that is incredible. If I ever get to California I'm going to find him and shake his hand.

If your drive is bricked contact Wayman, he will save you a world of pain.
