HP Elite x3
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Microsoft Insiders are routinely penalized for membership in that testing and evaluation process for upcoming builds by not automatically receiving firmware updates for their x3. Is there something that can be done to offer current FW to Insiders as soon as it is offered to users of the current OS release?

The last two firmware updates on my x3 could only be realized by using the Windows Device Recovery Tool, which gave me the firmware but also reset my Windows 10 version, forcing me to go through the whole phone rebuilding process to upgrade the OS to the latest Fast Ring version again, reinstall all my apps, and rebuild my idiosyncratic start screen. I just decided not to go through this painful process to get the Feb 2 FW release 23. What can anybody at HP do to help me with this situation, even if it is only to call Microsoft and berate them for treating some of their most ardent supprters with such disdain?

OK, I feel better now. But this is a real and persistent problem.

Hi,

HP and Microsoft are two different companies. HP won't release any firmware and related software to general public to support some sort of insider, alpha or beta releases from other company.

Hope this makes sense.

Thank you for your reply, but I do not expect HP or any company to make special efforts to accommodate beta or prerelease software under development by others. What I am upset about is that already-released HP firmware is being withheld from customers who are assisting in beta testing the  OS releases that will soon enough come to the general public -- in this case within two months, since Microsoft have said that the Creators Update will be released in April.

The x3  firmware that was released a few days ago is the same firmware that the Win10 Creators Update will necessarily run on top of when it goes into broad release. There is absolutely NO reason why that firmware should not be made available to all x3 owners at the same time, regardless of which Win10 version they choose to run. It is HP's responsibility to support all units of a particular model equally and in a timely fashion. It is the users of the HP devices who must take responsibility for installing reliable and compliant OS releases and apps on those devices.
