Omen X 900-085na & 900-187na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am looking to buy a powerful gaming desktop rig and I am looking at two omen x systems in particular:

- the omen X by HP 900-085na

- the omen X by HP 900-187na

I know one of them has the newer kaby lake processor and the other has a skylake. I also know that the skylake one has an extra 2TB hard drive, but apart from that, are there any other differences?

Also, I would like to know the read and write speed of the internal SSD for both. Could you also please tell me about the cooling configurations for both and would I be able to upgrade the skylake desktop with a kaby lake without any problems at a later date. Furthermore, which chipset (i.e. intel x99, z170, etc.) does the omen x have? Finally please tell me the impact of having a micro-ATX motherboard rather than an ATX and whether this makes much difference.

Please answer these questions as I am lost as to which one I should get.

Many thanks

Hello

Can direct you to spec on PC

Omen 900-187na supports Kabylake processor.

Omen 900-085na supports Skylake. The Skylake motherboard should upgrade to Kabylake with a BIOS update if HP does it.

The 187na and the 085na both have 256GB NVMe M.2 which supports up to 32 GB/second. Both motherboards have Z170 specs so there would be little performance difference with the motherboards. Kabylake processor is marginally faster than Skylake processor. Z170 chipset is limiting upgrade factor. Kabylake could be end of Z170 chipset.

Motherboards have not much overclocking, fan control, or memory tweak options on either motherboard in each HP PC.

I have heard keeping system cool may be challenge. See other threads in Gaming Desktop Board.

Micro ATX does what ATX does, only smaller. Some limits on SLI or Crossfire but Z170 chipset also has PCIE lane limits on any board with this chipset. Also limit on number of PCIe x16 slots.

Don't know if either board support dual graphics cards fom information by HP.

Grzy
