Do I leave my printer plugged in 24-7? Does it go to sleep mode? I do not print everyday or week necessarily!

According to the manual (HP Envy 5540 All In One Series Manual) on page 22, it will go into powersave mode after 5 minutes of inactivity. You can change this time in the control panel if you wish.
After 2 hours of inactivity, the printer will automatically turn itself off, and you will need to press the power button to turn it on again. This auto off feature is not active if the printer has wireless or WiFi Direct features turned on. Or if it has a fax, Ethernet, or USB connection. This info may be found on page 23 of the manual linked in the paragraph above.
