HP 8620
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

After reading several posts I could not get the HP 8620 to connect to the internet via wired connection.  This wired connection had no problem with printing or scanning to several computers on my network.

I tried the various solutions to make the wired connection to the Internet work:

  • Static IP
  • Printer Firmware updated
  • Port Fowarding (Could not get Port 80 to work on my router; error reportef as duplication?)
  • Setting clock
  • Turn off IPv6
  • Multiplle reboots of the printer and the router

Then I tried using a wireless (WiFi) connection.  That worked.  Now I would really prefer to use the wired connection.

If it helps I have a Linksys e4200 router with the current firmware.

Please help me make the wired (Eithernet) connect to the internet .

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.  I solved this issue by printing out two "HP Network Configuration" reports;  One each for eithernet and wireless.  I then compared the two for differences as I know it worked on wireless and not eithernet.

The only difference between the two was DHCP which was on for wireless and off for wired.  As I have assigned permanent IP addresses on the router, I suppose DHCP is fine.  I change the wired / eithernet connection to DHCP.... Now it works!

It seems odd to me that was the issue but I am happy as everything is now working.

Thanks again for your help and add this solution to your bag of solutions when your helping others.

Hey @T-Bomb,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you are having some issues with using web services when your Officejet 8620 e-All-in-One Printer is connected by an Ethernet cable to your router. I can help you with that.

To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once done, on your router:

  1. Open all Ports.
  2. Enable Multicasting.
  3. Disable MAC Filtering/MAC Cloning.
  4. Disable the Firewall.

Please let me know the results after following the above. If you are able to use web services when connected to the router using an Ethernet cable, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.
