I am using a Photosmart C4480 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. All documents I send to the printer fail to print and get stuck in the printer queue with a generic "Printer: Error" message. The only way to resolve the issue is to restart the print spooler under Services (Computer Management console). Once I restart, the document that got stuck is released, but any new documents I send to the printer get stuck in the queue again. The print spooler service is set to 'Automatic' startup type and 'Restart the Service' is selected under First and Second failure, so I have no idea why this is happening.

This is not a print spooler problem, check your C4480 using this diagnostic utility.
