rgsender process goes to defunct

Product Name: RGS-LSR 7.2.4
Operating System: Linux

Hi All,

Currently, we upgraded our RGS-LSR version to 7.2.4 in our Redhat/Centos 6.4 system, after updated the RGS-LSR software, we got report from the users when they  logout system, the desktop window will get stucked, to fix this issue we have to kill the Xorg process. And then we noticed the windows get stucked is because the rgsender process is defunct, so when they user logout the system, it can't kill the process, unless we kill it use kill -9 process as root.

From the log file we haven't find much useful clue when the rgsender and why the rgsender process is dead, the log only record when the user login and when him/she logout system.

# cat /etc/opt/hpremote/rgsender/logSetup
# Note: This file may be replaced by a property in a future release.
### Log *only* to rg.log file ###
log4cplus.rootLogger=INFO, FILE
log4cplus.appender.FILE.File=/var/opt/hpremote/rgsender/rg.log

Is there any way to get more information from the log file or any other place related the rgsender? Any suggestion will appreciate.

Thanks.

Carol

Re: rgsender process goes to defunct

Hi, Any ideas, this is really annoying, everytime when the user logout, the desktop will frozen:

# ps -ef | grep rgsender
root 485 32746 0 18:03 pts/0 00:00:00 grep rgsender
root 13790 13780 0 09:40 tty7 00:00:01 [rgsender] <defunct>

Have no idear how to fix it, could someone help in here?

Thanks.

Nobody but the zombie master can reap zombies.  In this case 13780.

If you kill that PID, then Init will reap the zombie.

Re: rgsender process is a zombie

Do you know who the parent is?  That's where the problem is.

Note: Zombies only take up space in a process table, so unless there are many of them, you don't need to worry too much.

Re: rgsender process is a zombie

Yes, the parent process is Xorg, I have to kill Xorg which is it parent process. Then the rgsender will start a new process.

下面是我拿到的rgsender的debug log:

Re: rgsender process goes to defunct

It would be helpful if you could provide the sender and receiver log files.  However, if you download RGS 7.3.1, there is a new rgsbugreport tool that will provide much more information.  Also, are you using a floating license for users?
