HP Photosmart 7520
macOS 10.12 Sierra

When using the HP Scan app (Version 4.4.1 (21)) on my MacMini running OSX 10.12.2 it correctly scans the item from my Photosmart 7520 printer/scanner and displays the preview in the app.

However, when I then chose to send the scanned item to a folder, give it a prefix name and select .pdf as type (none of the other types work either) the "Save" button is greyed out and it is not possible to save the item.

This function has worked before.

I have restarted the computer and the printer, but no help.

Any suggestions for a fix?

Update.

I found that if I go into HP Scan preferences and select "Scan to computer" then select "document" and "test" it will scan the document into a pdf file in my documents folder. So why can't I save it whan using the App?

Thanks for the super quick reply. Superb job on trying the different steps to isolate the issue.Kudos to you.

Here, I recommend you to install the HP Esay scan and check if this fixes the issue: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04788799

Hello@onegr8dane

Welcome to the HP Forums.I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

I came across your message about the scan issue with your HP printer and wanted to pop in to help.

This issue can be fixed by updating your Mac and then resetting the printing system. Try the steps below:

* Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.

* Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.

* Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.

* Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.

* Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.

* Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list

* Click the “Add button” (+).

* Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.

* Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Ok, so I reset the printing system and added my printer. A test of scanning using the HP Scan app shows the scannet item in the preview window. However, as before, the "Save" button remains grey and inactive.

Hi Sizzlingsum_13.

Saving scans work fine when using HP Easy Scan. Thank you for this fix.

Should that not be an automatic update when one has installed OSX 10.12.x ??

Best regards.
