So this is quite frustrating --
I got my RAM replacements from NewEgg. This time I got Corsair Vengeance models, 8GB x2 at 1600/12800. I have the SAME exact slow problems I was having with the earlier versions I returned. I tried reflashing the BIOS with the latest update from HP, thinking that might fix the problem. Nope. I tried updating the paging. Nope. I then tried using one 8GB at a time in the two different slots. The cards on their own, work super snappy. If I combine the old 4GB from HP with the new Corsair Vengeance 8GB... same slow down problem.
In my frustration, I contacted HP and talked to support. The guy was very, very nice and was helpful given the problem I was having. However, after almost 2 hours it was unsolved. It basically sounds like HP wants me to buy their 8GB card at $250 a piece that are "certified" to work the with the computer. Umm...soo $500 worth of RAM on a $600 computer? HA!!
They had me place one stick of stock 4GB ram with one stick of the new 8GB I bought, with the same exact slow result. The guy I talked to says his senior IT co-worker claimed a "shareability" problem with the RAM and the motherboard. Has anyone heard this before? The RAM I got was identified by the guy that helped me to have every reason to work, but it wasn't working at full speed (Window and the system BIOS both see 16GB) because of something we couldn't figure out. Troubling since both HP and Best Buy acknowledge this computer can be expanded to 16GB. Nobody or nothing ever mentions a limitation to "HP certified" RAM being the only option...
So... does anyone know of a fix, or is this computer heading back to Best Buy to be replaced with a new brand?? I was going to take this computer to a PC place, but that just seems silly putting even more money into this cheap computer that was only supposed to act as a temporary solution until I get something better.

I also followed your lead on the memory from newegg. I also had the Best Buy Geek Squad tell me that even though they sold me the computer and the memory, I am on my own to solve the issue. Seems as though they sold us a false bill of goods.

I have the same problem and all of the solutions don't work.I've talked to HP techs and also with Crucial memory techs and I keep getting the same advice.I have purchased the recommended memory 3 times 3 different suggestions. This notebook will NOT accept 16 GB RAM.I went back to 8GB and works fine.I gave up on the upgrade unfortunately. I believe HP made a mistake about the specs on this one.

It does accept the RAM, it just has to be (according to the "senior" technician at HP my rep talked to) "HP certified" that you can only buy through them at $250 a pop, which was NOT stated by them at the time of purchase.
Blatant false advertisement. If I was in a different mood I would definitely be raising hell with the BBB to get this corrected. Instead, my wife and I will be two less customers in the future, which is far more damning than HP giving away some free RAM for a slight-of-hand lie to keep their BBB reputation.

The tech I talked to told me to get SDRAM instead of SODIMM. Nuf said,he didn't have a clue.
