I purchased 16GB of PC3-10600 RAM upgrade in a Pavilion m6-1045dx to replace the 8GB PC12800 at the time I bought the Notebook. The notebook had become very slow to boot, the audio is terrible and the browser performance is too slow to use as well as any applications. I took it back to Best Buy and they put the memory and HD into a brand new Pavilion m6-1045dx and had the same result. I went back to the PC3-10600 RAM and it performs well. What is the correct RAM to use to upgrade to 16 GB.... Best Buy had no clue and suggested I figure it out.

Hi:
That is very odd...
The specs on that notebook show the i5 to run at 1600 MHz, which means the best memory to pair it with would also be 1600 Mhz.
See the service manual, chapter 1.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03328663.pdf
Chapter 3 calls for 1600 Mhz memory modules. Page 28.
You don't have a performance HDD in there unfortunately.
I can't believe HP would stick a 5,400 RPM HDD in a notebook that nice.
I'd have been happier with a 500 GB 7,200 RPM HDD.
Maybe a different brand memory would work?
I've always had good luck with this brand...

You get 16 GB for $78.00 net after the rebate if you get 2 sticks.

I just got myself an m6-1045dx and upgraded the RAM through NewEgg with 16GB of Crucial 1333/PC3-10600. I was so exicted to get that installed... just to have it run my computer like molasses afterwards. I have the same exact problems you outlined. Turns out, (thanks to Paul for linking to the HP specs) that these laptops do indeed need 1600/PC3-12800 in order to operate. I have setup my RAM to get sent back to NewEgg for a refund and reordered the new 1600/PC3-12800 variants for about $123 shipped (overnight for $20 plus $3 rush). How embarassing. ![]()
Outside of that - this laptop is awesome!!

The CPU supports 1333MHz and also 1600MHz memory so both modules should work.

However, I have no idea how the BIOS has been configured..

Sorry, no mate. I would recommend to HP that they should open their systems more to customers such as enable advanced options (hidden by default) in the BIOS, plus etc. They have a huge loss in profit for the last quarter and customers turn back on them because of this...
