Hello, my name is Charles and I am looking to upgrade my Hp Pavillion DV6Z laptop. I know it is an older laptop, but I recently purchased Diablo 3 and would like to be able to run it on here. This computer has 3 GB of Ram and had a new hardrive put in fairly recently. In this computer I have:
HP 30F2 Motherboard
AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core QL-60 processor
AMD Radeon HD 3200 Graphics card.
and the minimum requirements for Diablo III are:
-Intel Pentium D 2.8 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ for processor
-NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT or ATI Radeon X1950 Pro or better.
Preferrably I would like to be able to run the game on medium settings or better. Is it worth upgrading this laptop even though its a bit older? Thanks for any advice.

Hi, Charles:
I cannot find the right service manual for your notebook going on only dv6z.
This is the closest I could find.

Basically, a complete motherboard swap would be required to upgrade the video.
The processor could probably be upgraded to one of the ones listed in chapter 1.
The costs attendant to performing a motherboard swap and processor upgrade would, in my opinion, exceed the cost of buying a new notebook with what you want in it, if you were to trade yours in (some stores offer up to $200 for trade-ins) or sell it.

I suspected that I would need to get a new laptop. Thank you so much for the information and the quick reply.

I am in almost the exact same situation, except I have a Pavilion g7-1167dx Notebook PC. Am I able to upgrade it to the system requirements that Charles listed above?

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02834058.pdf
Supported processors can be found in chapter 1, page 1.
You would also need to swap out the entire motherboard for one with better graphics. Motherboards are listed in chapter 3, pages 13 and 14.
I wouldn't know what motherboard you need, and again, the costs attendant to changing a processor and motherboard would exceed the cost of a new notebook with the hardware you want, if you sold or traded your current one in.
