Can I update dm1z BIOS to F13 and upgrade WiFi card to Centrino Advanced-N 6230 for 5GHz WiFi?

Hello,

HP has released a BIOS update (F.13) for the HP Pavilion dm1z-3000 (this is the unit I have with Windows 7 64-bit, got it in March 2011). The update says it "Provides support for a new Wireless LAN card."  Is this wifi card the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230? This card is 2x2 5GHz and is better than the 1x1 Ralink RT5390 that is in my dm1z now. Can I update the BIOS to F.13 and then buy the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 and insert it into my dm1z so I can get 802.11n at 5GHz?

Hi,

1. BIOS: You can upgrade BIOS to F13 if you wish as long as it is for your machine.

2. Wireless card: No you can't. Centrino is NOT just a wireless card, you need more than that to fulfil this Trademark.

Regards.

I guess you read his question wrong. Nobody cares whether or not it is properly called Centrino, the thing is: we want the dm1z to run a 5Ghz wlan adapter. And the question is: will this work on the dm1z?

I read somewhere someone had put in the Intel 6230 adapter and it worked with BIOS F13. As it seemed there was only one mention of it, I am not sure whether this is really the case or not.

So, what adapter has been added to the whitelist?
