I really like my dv7 and I'm looking to upgrade the processor if it's possible.
I have the DV7-1245dx. Is this possible, and if so, what are my options?

It is possible. You have the AMD Turion X2 RM-72 Dual-Core Mobile Processor at 2.1 ghz. The fastest processor offered by HP on your laptop is a ZM-86 like this one:
You would get about a 20% increase in processing speed.

You would go from 1 meg of L2 cache to 2, which helps a lot. Keep in mind the processor upgrade voids all warranties and is not an easy job. The dv7 is a bear to disassemble if it is your first laptop teardown. I think I would pass at $120 for the processor plus the cost of installation. Sell your laptop, invest the $250 toward a better new one and you come out ahead.
