Hi there,
at the moment my Elitebook 8540w contains 2x2gb PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333), i would like to upgrade this to 2x4gb PC3-14900 (DDR3-1866). Is this fully compatible and would i get the full benifits of the extra speed?

Hi:
Below is the link to the quickspecs for your notebook.

See page 18 for the memory info.
The short answer is no, you will not gain any advantage using PC3-14900 memory, and it may not even work.
I recommend you stick with the PC3-1333 (10600) memory. Do not get PC3-10666 memory. I haven't read about anyone that gets that memory to work in HP PC's.
