G60-519WM laptop memory upgrade

Howdy, y'all,

I'm planning to install an application that requires 4GB. My G60-519WM (Celeron 900, 2.2GHz, Win7 Pro SP1 64-bit, fully patched) has 3GB of PC2-6400. CPU-Z reports that slot 1 (on the motherboard, I assume) contains a 2GB PC2-6400 SO-DIMM. Slot 2, accessible from the underside of the case, though I haven't opened it yet, contains 1GB of PC2-6400.

The mobo comprises the Intel GL40 chipset, which supports up to 4GB of DDR3 at 800MHz, according to the datasheet from Intel. Can I use PC3-6400 in my system? I ask because I've seen systems where the BIOS doesn't support memory modules that the chipset does. If so, how do I disassemble the case to get at the on-mobo DIMM?

I hope that an upgrade to PC3-6400 will improve performance somewhat, and increase battery life a bit.

André.

Re: G60-519WM laptop memory upgrade

Hi, André:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02985882/c02985882.pdf

Removal and replacement procedures can be found in Chapter 4.

Memory info can be found in Chapter 1, page 1-3.

Maximum is 2 x 2 GB of PC2-6400 memory.

DDR3 memory is incompatible with your PC and to prevent us from installing the wrong DDR speed memory in desktop and notebook PC's the notches in the memory are cut in different places.

Paul
