HP Pavilion Dv6 Memory Upgrade

Hey, I recently purchased an HP Pavilion Dv6-6c14nr and I'm looking to upgrade the memory from 4GB to either 8 or 12GB. I'm going to be running alot of 3D programs such as Maya and UDK so I'd like to get an extra kick. Someone had told me it would be wise to get the same manufacturer as the memory chip thats inside the laptop now to get the best results. Is this true? Cutting to the chase, which memory module should I go with and is there a way to find out which brand the stock memory is without taking the backing off of the laptop?

Re: HP Pavilion Dv6 Memory Upgrade

Hi, It is recommended to use the same memory sticks but not necessary. I had a better memory benchmark with two different modules (2GB+4GB) than the same sticks (4GB+4GB). Crucial memory advisor says that you need PC3-10600 or PC3-12800 sodimm ddr3 modules. I would recommend PC-3-12800 Corsair, Crucial or Kingston modules. HP use Samsung memory modules in laptops so you can get these as well. Single 8GB modules are quite expensive so it's up to your pocket which modules to choose..:-)

Re: HP Pavilion Dv6 Memory Upgrade

Ok sounds good. So when they say same modules, it's not necessarily the brand of the stick, it's whether or not they are paired together (4GB and 4GB) not (4GB and 8GB). Thanks for the quick feedback!! I'm going to do some research to see what kind of deals I can find.

Hi,

No, the laptop doesn't support 1600MHz modules..
