HP Pavilion G7-2251dx Processor Upgrade

Hi! I was just playing Skyrim the other day and I found out that my current processor keeps me at a pretty slow FPS. This also applies with Minecraft, etc. Anyway, I was wondering if I could upgrade my processor. The current one is an AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M APU with Radeon Graphics. It says it has 1.9 ghz but can go up to 2.8, but I have no idea how to boost it. Also I was wondering if I could upgrade my ram. Hi,

There is a list of CPU's supported in the following manual:

Page #4 will show you how much RAM you can install on your machine. Luckily the machine currently has 1x4Gb therefore you only need 1 piece of 4Gb for the second slot (to get total 8). Please note 32bit OS can only access up to 4Gb of RAM.

i have a HP Pavilion G7 1000sa laptop

the main boatd is a 638856-001

i have a 3Ghz processor in it

can i upgrade the processor any more

it has a socket AM2+

i was looking at this one on ebay

also it says on the hp website that it can only take 4gb of memory but on the pdf you display on the prevous post it says 8gb max i am so confused

Hello bubayetti.  I understand you'd like to upgrade your CPU.

Take a look at page 89 of your notebook's Maintenance and Service Guide.  This covers the CPUs which are available for your notebook.  If you choose to install any CPU that isn't listed here there is no way to know whether it'll work or not.  The notebook was designed with specific CPUs in mind and upgrading to a different one may require you to change the power supply as well.  The CPU you mention does not appear to be in the list so this means it is unlikely to work.

If your notebook supports 4GB DIMMs and has two slots then you can use 8GB of RAM.  However, if you do not have a 64-bit operating system you will only be able to access 4GB of the memory.  This is a limitation of a 32-bit operating system.

Dearest banhien, the document you posted on april 2013 was almost two years old - dated august 2011. Pavilion G7 has got several BIOS updates* after august 2011 (until feb 2013), I think nine (9). Does any of those those BIOS updates included any new supported CPUs? 

Just as an example: On september 2011 Intel released core i7 2640M wich has quite similar specs than 2620M (that is listed on the document you linked), so we could assume that Pavilion G7 works with 2640M, but just wondering why HP does not provide us any confirmations about such facts? 

I also noticed that some of the supported Intel CPUs are for socket G1 and some of those are for socket G2. It would be nice in the future, that the document would include the information wich socket supports wich CPUs.
