HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Notebook - RAM Upgrade

Greetings,

I have a new HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Notebook, on which I am running Windows 7 Professional - 64-Bit. I would like to upgrade the RAM from 8 to 16GB's.

The details on the HP Site provide the following information:

Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 (Non-ECC)

Maximum Memory: 16GB

Slots: 2

Each memory slot can hold DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3-12800 with a maximum of 16GB kit (8GBx2) per slot

Does anyone know if this model is able to handle the faster DDR3 PC3-15000 RAM?

I'd like to use that RAM instead, if it improves performance. But I'm even not sure if this notebook will handle that RAM or if I'll see any benefits.

Cheers,

Wayne

Hi, Wayne:

I can't find any additional info than what you posted.

I can tell you that means the fastest memory the notebook will run at is DDR3-12800.

If it can take the PC3-15000 (which it should), it will downclock to the 12800 speed.

I would imagine your notebook has the DDR3-10600 memory installed currently.

Nice notebook!

Re: HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Notebook - RAM Upgrade

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the prompt response. I thought that might be the case, but thought I'd check in case anyone knew otherwise. I saw the details on the DDR3 PC3-15000 on an over-clocking site, but I don't really want to go there. The additional RAM is my main need for large Virtual Images that I run.

So far, this laptop has been working very well for me, especially with the external SSD I purchased to run my VM's.

Cheers,
