HP Pavilion dv6104ea - upgrade CPU

[ Edited ]

Hello I have laptop HP Pavilion dv6104ea (DV6000 series) with the slowest CPU, Intel Celeron M 420. I need to upgrade my CPU. What is the best CPU I can put in a laptop? Is it Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (SL9SF for Socket M)? I do not know differencies between versions of DV6000...

One piece CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 I have tried, but it did not work. Now I do not know whether it was a faulty piece or it was not a supported type.

Thanks

Re: HP Pavilion dv6104ea - upgrade CPU

The units with Celeron processors have a defeatured motherboard which will not support a Core 2 Duo processor. Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

See page 3-9. The Celeron models have the 940GML chipset and it will not support a processor which has speed stepping, which the Core 2 Duos have.

You could install a Celeron 440 at best. The 945GM motherboards are very hard to find these days. You can confirm the model of your motherboard by opening the memory slot and looking under the modules. It should be stenciled there.
