HP Pavilion tx2110us Not Compatible with SSD? Intel 520 series SSD, 240GB

Hello, I am having a heck of a time getting this to work.

First, I have upgraded the OS to W7 Ultimate from Vista Ultimate using the Upgrade function on the DVD.

Then, I found several parts of computer drivers that did not work (Quick Play buttons, Screen Rotation and the fingerprint reader drivers+software). All of this, as far as I can tell, is now working, thanks to a bunch of info over in the HP support forums.

I have had no issues installing the Intel data migration tool. That seems to work.

The problems happen after I install the 520 series 240GB SSD into the laptop.

I get the notification that the data migration is complete, and I also get a message that W7 is changing settings and needs a restart.

After restart, the HDD indicator lights up and the computer appears to start up normally.

Then, after a few seconds once the desktop comes up, I get a blank black screen.

The HDD indicator goes out.

Subsequent restarts give a blank black screen after the BIOS part is complete. Then I get a notification that says "No Operating System Found".

Upon restart, I get the following error message:

Status: 0xc000000e

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

When I install the OS DVD and restart, it usually hangs up at the "Starting Windows" screen for several minutes.

Using "System Recovery" on the DVD, the SSD is apparently not recognized because the operating system is not listed, so I can't select it to repair. I am prompted to "load drivers".

The laptop functions normally when I remove the SSD and reinstall the original HDD.

Is there a way to get the SSD to work, or is it incompatible with this laptop?

Thanks

Hi,

The Intel SSD is a SATA III one so it may not be fully compatible with older SATA or SATA II laptops due some BIOS settings. I would try one of the SATA II drives instead of SATA III because you won't get the full read and write speed anyway..

Well, as far as I have been able to figure out, except for data speed, SATA III is supposed to be compatible with SATA II.

The Intel 520 series is also advertised as being backwards compatible.

I have the same original question posted on the Intel SSD forum, but no response yet.

That's right but the BIOS might not support it..

"That's right but the BIOS might not support it."

Ok, so what (if any) SSD tech will the BIOS on a Pavilion tx2110us support?

I have done a little digging, and the answer seems to be "not much", at least as far as SSD's are concerned.

When I went into the BIOS, I couldn't change anything related to the HDD, unless I was poking around in the wrong spot.

The laptop is a bit older and also the max supported RAM is up to 4GB. It means the BIOS can't be configured for SSDs because there were not solid state drive at the time of purchase of your laptop...

Is it possible to flash a BIOS that is compatible?

I don't think so. You can't fit a ferrari engine to a mazda. It means you have to get an ssd compatible laptop (any laptop up to 3 years old)..

Computers are old very soon because the technology comes out every day (a new Intel generation comes out this month)..
