Hp Pavilion Dv5t-1100 CTO memory upgrade Question

Hi One and all:

I own a HP Pavilion laptop DV5t-1100 CTO Customizable Entertainment Notbook.... Model number: FL773AV and serial number CNF8471PML. My operating system has been changed to Windows 7 Professional. My current memory cards parts number are 48468-001, 2GB, 800 MHz, 200 pin, PC2-6400, SDRAM Small outline Dual In-line Memory Modules (SODIMM).

I run the Windows Virtual PC for Win XP driven by the need to use some old professional grade software for economic reasons (AutoCad, etc.). I am a small business owner that multitasks all day long. I need 8GB of ram to make sure I will not run into any snags of memory shortage and to keep my laptop running smoothly.

Question: Is my motherboard configured to except the upgrade to 8GB? The HP parts list does not list 4GB card or 8GBkit for this model laptop. Please advise.
Thank you
n

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook PC.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01550108.pdf

Please see Chapter 1, page 3 for the memory capacity for your machine (4 GB).

You can also run the free Crucial memory scanner which will scan your PC and report how much memory can be installed in your PC.

Best Regards,

Paul

Re: Hp Pavilion Dv5t-1100 CTO memory upgrade Question

Thanks Paul. I ran this scan last evening and I received a message "Our System scanner couldn't make a complete match, ..." Hence written on this forum. The memory maximum list 8192 GB... but the HP as published user guideas you have stated is 4GB. Again, hence my confusion on the max. Memory. I email Crucial Company but have not heard back.
Thanks.

I see where Crucial states 8 GB is the max for a dv5t-1000 CTO Laptop

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion%20dv5t-1000%20CTO

I feel comfortable with that--especially if you tell me you have an Intel processor.

If you live in the USA, you can get a compatible 4 GB module for your notebook at the link below for considerably less.

I have this memory in two of my HP notebooks (6910p and 6930p).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220382

You may want to buy one and if it works with one of your other chips installed, buy the other.

I don't see where you stated you have a 64 bit operating system installed.  You must have a 64 bit operating system installed for the 8 GB of memory to be of any use.

Re: Hp Pavilion Dv5t-1100 CTO memory upgrade Question

Sorry I missed this... Operating system change...

Yes, I did list I have changed the operating system to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit a year ago. Sorry I thought all win professional versions were 64 bit... my mistake.

Thank you very much for you review for my memory upgrade... as stated before I do have the intel processors.

Thanks so much.

Re: Hp Pavilion Dv5t-1100 CTO memory upgrade Question

[ Edited ]

OK...that makes me feel much better.

Why?

1. The Intel PM45 chipset in your notebook supports up to 8 GB of memory.

2. The service manual was written in 2008, and there is a good chance that 4 GB DDR2 memory modules were not even available at the time to test.

3. My 6930p notebook which I referenced above, has the same chipset as yours, and a P8700 processor, and as I posted, am running quite nicely with 2 of those 4 GB Patriot memory modules installed.

4. Crucial says 8 GB is OK in your notebook series.

Best Regards,

Paul

Re: Hp Pavilion Dv5t-1100 CTO memory upgrade Question

I do see the Patriot memory about $40.00 cheeper then the Crucial. I thank you again really.... I need this laptop to keep in tip top shape for business and personal use. You have given a big piece of mind.

Thanks again Paul.
