I would like to upgrade my memory to the limit. It has two spaces each with a gig in it.

Can someone here give me the HP part # for a 4gig chip? The chips that I've gotten aren't right.

The "detent" in the chip is in a different spot. Whereas it's about a 1/4 inch from the left on the HP chip, it's almost an inch from the left on the upgrade chip.

The word detent may be wrong. There is a cut or a space in the chip. I don't know what it's called.

Can you help me?

Hi:

You got the wrong speed memory chip. 

The notches for DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 memory chips are all cut in different places because they are incompatible with each other.  They use different voltages.

I need the full model number of your notebook to determine what speed memory your notebook needs.

CQ62 isn't enough info.

The full model # is CQ 62-219WM  probably to identify that it was made to be sold by Walmart

It states that it needs DDR3 memory.  See page 1-1.  Max is 2 x 4GB

What memory did you buy?  It should state it on the sticker.

What does the memory info state on the sticker for the memory that came with your PC?

The info on the sticker says that it is DDR3.

The chip in the pc says:

1GB 2Rx16 PC2

Replace with HP Spare 619545-001

Far below that (it may or may not have anything to do with the above)

Hi:

Apparently the service manual is incorrect because that part number is a PC2-6400 1 GB memory module.

So that means your notebook uses DDR2 memory, not DDR3, which is why the memory you bought won't fit.

Use the free Crucial memory scan tool to confirm what memory is needed for your PC.

I can tell you that 2 x 4 GB of PC2-6400 memory isn't going to come cheap!
