Installing a HP deskjet 1051 printer

I just bought a new HP deskjet 1051 printer tonight and am trying to install it.  I have windows XP.  I'm having no luck.  I followed all the directions and it says that the software has been installed but I am not connected to the computer yet.  It won't print anything.  I've tried several times.  Any suggestions or help out there?  I'd appreciate it

the only thing is with XP theres the old and newer verions of it.  this printer is only compatable with intel pentium 2 Celeron internet explorer 6 if u dont have that it cant work ;-/ i have the same printer and it wont print now and its basically brand new printed 1 paper to test it n now i gota paper dues tommorow and cant print and i have windows 7.

necesito instalar la impresora deskjet 1051 y tengo el cd de instalacion pero diced que no es compatible con mi laptop es una hp 2000 notebook  con windows 8  quisiera saber si me pueden ayudar a la instalacion de la impresora
