as i said earlier other forums have the general opinion that the card is just rubbish as no one hs been able to any higher speed than 54mbps so i thought given that they are cheap anyway i could just change the card to a better known brand such as realtek or atheros

Well then, I would go with one of the other ones knowing that if you get more than 72 MBPS on any of them, it is a victory,
Also, try the latest driver.
