Thank you very much for your prompt reply!

However, I noted that several websites that specialize in memory upgrade say the maximum capacity for my laptop model is 8 GB. Do you think I can still trust the generic G6 service guide?

You're welcome 🙂

I trust Crucial more than G6 service guide in this 😉

If Crucial system scanner scanned your system & lists compatible upgrades - they guarantee you that upgrade or else you'll get the money back.

Upgradeable upto 6 GB with DDR3 PC3-10600, 1333MHz SO-DIMM SDRAM configuration

HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide - Page 3, 25, 56

Add 2gb more in the second slot with the exact configuration. I dont think going from 4gb -> 6gb is going to give you a noticeable improvement in performance though.

Specs

Your memory bay contains 1066MHz 4gigs RAM at present it seems, but manual states upto 1333MHz RAM speed possible. So , eventhough you add another 2gb 1333 DDR3 stick, your system will operate both RAMs in 1066MHz frequency (lower one).

Buy a branded RAM - Hynix, Samsung(yours already installed RAM), Crucial, G.Skill etc.
