Need advice replacing HP Mini 2102 Screen

[ Edited ]

Hey all,

I am fixing an HP Mini 2102 netbook that was dropped on the ground. The netbook works fine, except now the screen is somewhat hazy and washed out on the right side. Usually, when a laptop screen acts up, I try to replace the display inverter board, as was the case with an HP Pavilion dv9000 machine I fixed recently.

However, after dismatling the computer, I found no such inverter on the screen, and after consulting with a very helpful HP support assistant in a live chat session who informed me that there isn't a separate inverter board available for purchase, I've come to believe I must replace the whole screen.

If I am not mistaken, the LCD part number is 589649-001 for this particular model I am repairing. I am creating this post to confirm that the inverter board on this Mini cannot be replaced, and that I must replace the entire LCD screen - minus the camera, bezel, and hinges, which all work fine - in order to fix the display issue.

If there are any other suggestions as to what part I need, or if I need to take a completely different approach to the repair, please let me know before I order the LCD screen part.

Hi,

I don't think 589649-001 is the right part number. Please check the following book (page #21) to find out which part(s) you need:

Good luck.

Re: Need advice replacing HP Mini 2102 Screen

Well thanks for the prompt and helpful reply banhien! The guide was very informative, and the manual was just what I was looking for! Unfortunately, it also has me confused. Maybe you can helpt to shed some light on the matter. According to the part number that you mentioned on page #21, the part is described as

"10.1-in, WSVGA, AntiGlare display panel,"

which is correct, because the HP assistant did inform me it was a WSVGA screen. The part number for that is 589652-001.

The part number that I mentioned, 589649-001, is described in the manual on page #27 as

"10.1-in WSVGA, AntiGlare, standard display assembly in black for use only with HP Mini 2102 and

210 computer models (includes display panel cable, 2 WLAN transceivers and cables, 2 WWAN
transceivers and cables, and webcam/microphone module and cable)."

So now you can understand my confusion: both parts are the right size, display type, and are for the black model, which is what I have. If I had to guess, I'd say that the 589652-001 is just the display panel, and the

589649-001 is the entire assembly, so it includes the built-in mic, webcam, and the necessary cables, so all I would have to do is attach the assembly and plug the cables back into the system board. The '52-001 is just the display, so I would need to strip the old display of all the aforementioned parts, and add them to the panel.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, because if I'm right, then I might go with just the display - to save money - or the entire assembly - to save time and effort.

Hi,

You're right, you can save money just select the right part(s). I believe not much.

Good luck.
