HP Pavilion s3123W
Product Number: GC659AA
Serial Number: CNH721029Q
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium x64
I'm planning to upgrade the processor on my slimline; the 4000+ just doesn't cut it anymore for me, and I'm going to upgrade.
Unfortunately the data available on the MB compatibility is rather vague.
Under "Processor Upgrade Information" it merely says:
Socket type: AM2
- AMD Phenom II Quad-Core
- AMD Phenom II Triple-Core
- AMD Phenom Quad-Core (A) 9xxx series (AM2+)
- AMD Phenom Triple-Core (T) 8xxx series (AM2+)
- AMD Athlon X4
- AMD Athlon X3
- AMD Athlon X2 (B) (AM2+)This is NOT enough data to buy a processor with. This is wikipedia's list of Phenom II Processors (I'm interested in upgrading to the quad core)On that list, the general question is "what is the fastest/newest Phenom II Quadcore that I can install?"
In more detail;Do I need to restrict myself to the energy efficient (65 W) models? Will variance in voltage requirements be an issue, or can the MB handle the full range of all chips that fall under the "Phenom II" category?Due to socket differences, do I need to restrict myself to models with the AM2/AM2+ form factor? Or would an AM3 model be recognized? What CPU's will the MB BIOS support/recognize? I would hate to purchase a processor that's rejected out of hand by the MB/BIOS even though it *should* technically work.
