Ram upgrade DM1-4015tu

Hi. brouht a HP Pavilion DM1-4015tu

Read on the hp site that it can be upgraded to 8gb ram max. This was one oh the main resoms I broght one. I had a look on Cruical.com and it says there is 2 dimm slots 1 has a 4gb in it and other is empty and can install 8gb max and gives a list of 2x4gb packs. I also had a look on couple of other sites and same thing 8gb max. HP site says same thing here. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03061171&cc=ad&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_nz...

Have removed the back of the laptop and can see 1 ram stick and only one dimm slot. 4gb stick that come with the laptop.

Where is the 2nd ram slot? Is there a 2nd ram slot. If there isnt a 2nd ram slot why is everything saying there is?

Hope some one can help as I havealready got a 8gb pack of ram for it. 2x4gb sticks.

thanks

Re: Ram upgrade DM1-4015tu

Hi,

The specifications for your machine do indicate it can support 8Gb which may not be correct; check the information on Page 58 of your Maintenance & Service Guide - If your notebook has the Intel processor and so only 1 available slot, I would simply return the modules you bought from Crucial and get a refund.

Regards,

Re: Ram upgrade DM1-4015tu

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03255380.pdf

Please refer to chapter 4, pages 57 and 58. PC's with Intel processors only have one memory slot.

Accordingly, PC's with Intel processors can only have a max of 1 x 4 GB memory module (see chapter 1 page 2).

That is why you only see one memory chip. Your model has an Intel processor.

The dm1 Maintenence & Service guide states that models with Intel Processors have a single memory module.

Re: Ram upgrade DM1-4015tu

Thanks

So will one 8gb stick work in the single slot or is it limited to 4gb per slot?

Re: Ram upgrade DM1-4015tu

Hi:

The manual states max is 4 GB per slot.

I would try and borrow a 8 GB module before risking buying one, unless you can return a 8 GB module you purchase.

Theoretically, 8 GB should work. The chipset supports 8 GB, but it will be a big gamble.

I must correct my post and eat a little crow.

Paul_Tikkanen brought to my attention that the Service & maintenence guide does state that the Intel processor version is only upgradeable to 4GB. A single 8Gb memory module will not work.
