SSD upgrade

Hi..

I am  oing to install a 128 Gig SSD with a 2nd HDD SATA cable into my new HP DV-7.  Currently it has a 650 GIg HDD in it.  Bay 2 is open.  So I am going to move my conventional HDD to BAY 2 (HD1) and reserve HD0 for my new SSD.

My question is since they are different type drives and the ssd has only 1/2 the capacity, Cloning the C and D partion will NOT work using the Window7 backup utility.  I made a repair (boot) disc but HP did not supply an OS disc.  Can I order one? or are there  ways to go around that expense.

Thanks in advance.

Re: SSD upgrade

Hi:

See this post regarding downloading W7 and using your COA on the bottom to activate the installation.

The post marked in green is not the solution that was used.

I came up with a better idea. Read further on.

Also, copy the SWSetup folder off your C:\ drive. That should have the program and driver installation files that came installed on your PC.

The only program you cannot reinstall is Office 2010 starter.

Re: SSD upgrade

Hi:

If you haven't erased the data on your original hard drive, look in a folder named SWSetup. In there are subfolders that should have all the program and driver installation files from the original install.

Then just click on each folder to see what is in there, and use what you want.

If you deleted that folder or can't find the software you need, you can't get the Beats audio software online (at least not that I could find).

If you provide the full model # of your PC, I might be able to help with the fingerprint software and driver.
