Upgrading could pose a problem...???

I recently purchsed a HP G62 Notebook that has 2 gig of RAM.  Nice machine, but I'd like to put another 2 gig memory stick inside, but here's the rub.

In the user manual I downloaded from the HP site, the memory is described as "2 customer accessible/upgradable SODIMM slots" but on the underside f the case a label has been placed over the edge of the memory module compartment stating that the warranty is void if the label is damaged or removed.

That smacks of having your cake and eating it. How can HP market an upgradable computer and then deny the purchaser the right ot upgrade it?

Re: Upgrading could pose a problem...???

As per specs of the Notebook found here ; the maximum RAM supported on your Notebook is 4GB and upgrading RAM would not void your warranty.

RAM is a customer replaceable part and your only concern should be that in future if you any problems and you happen to send Notebook in for warranty repair , any hardware which wasnt part of original configuration has to be removed.

Re: Upgrading could pose a problem...???

Thank you Kamat, that's logical, I hope you won't mind me using this post  should the SEHTF.

Just to make my point ~

You pointed out that your opinions were not those of HP, but I hope you get an opportunity to point out to the 'powers that be' that this is something that they might review apropos future policy as it could possibly cause unnecessary angst to customers. For my part had I found that the warranty would have been voided I would have gone done the "never buy from HP again" path and that would have been the end of what might yet be a beautiful relationship.

Anyway thanks for your help and advice.
