My hard drive went out on my laptop the other day and now im wondering what would be the best hard drive for it, that is not pricey and has some storage space?

Hi:

What is the full model number of your dv5?

After you supply that, I will send you a link with some options for you.

Yes, that is what I needed.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

Replacement drives are listed in Chapter 3 on page 32.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01550108.pdf

Using that info I have some recommendations and you can do what you want with them.

You have the choice of a SATA II 5,400 RPM drive like you have now or a SATA II 7,200 RPM drive. The difference is that a 7,200 RPM drive will give you faster seek times (performance) than a 5,400 RPM drive will, but it will be at the expense of battery life between charges.

So if staying on battery power for a longer time between charges is more important to you, then go with a 5,400 RPM drive.

Here is a link to a website where I get my hard drives from. I like it because it has a lot of user reviews on many of the drives.

http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=380&name=Laptop-Hard-Drives

Depending on what you are looking for, my first choice would be this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136856

and in a 5,400 RPM model, this one.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136567

Now there is this 7,200 320 GB model on sale...
