battery replacement

We have a HP PAVILION DV6-2119TX ENTERTAINMENT NOTEBOOK PC running Windows 7 and it says that I should replace the battery at start up . We have it plugged in 99% of the time but it doesnt survive long on battery power - maybe 40 mins. Is there a risk to the machine if I do not replace it? Is two years the sort of battery life I can expect from this model?

Re: battery replacement

dj,

Depending on usage, 2 years is about right for the battery.  The warranty is usually one year.  You do not need to replace it and can remove it.  The notebook will work fine without it (provided you've connected the AC adapter).

Re: battery replacement

Thanks wes - are you referring to the internal CR2032 or the external large one? I bought a CR2032 online for it and can just drop it in and solve the problem right?

Re: battery replacement

You can remove the external battery on the unit, and just use your notebook with the AC Adapter connected without any issues.

The message that you are getting during boot is pertaining to the external battery. (and not the internal CMOS).

You can possibly buy a new battery if you think you will need to use your notebook without the AC Adapter and are on the move.

Re: battery replacement

The message I receive while the laptop is booting is: Primary Internal Battery (601) HP Battery alert. The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated to be very low. For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.  Is there an internal batter?

Re: battery replacement

Hey cb,

The Primary Internal Battery (601) is actually the main removable/rechargeable battery that you are familiar with.  It is NOT the CMOS battery.  A secondary battery (602) would apply if the notebook were capable of using two removable/rechargeable batteries at the same time.

Re: battery replacement

Are you saying that even though the message actually says CMOS, it mean external battery?  That's messed up!  Giving wrong messages like that!!!

Re: battery replacement

cb,

Where did the error say CMOS?  I thought it said internal battery.  The internal battery in this case is not the CMOS battery.  It is the main rechargeable battery.  Some notebooks accomodate two removable batteries at once.  To distinguish between the two, we identify one as the primary (internal) and the other as the secondary (external).  Neither of those is the CMOS.  The CMOS error is code (CMOS Reset (502).

Re: battery replacement

djvarcoe,

You'll need to purchase a replacement battery.  Depending on where you are in the world, you can get one from HP or from a local/online retailer.

These are compatible with your model:
