Hi FOlks, I would like to get a blu-ray burner to use with my dv7 laptop. It has an i7 processor and 4 gig of ram, which should be enough horse power to do the deed. I tried a Panasonic external, and the first disk would only play on the laptop, the second one did not complete the burn. Any recomendations?

Re: blu-ray

Hi:

If you provide the full model number of your dv7, I will send you the link to the service manual, and we can see if an optional blu-ray drive is listed with the part number.

Re: blu-ray

Hi, Andy:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03043778.pdf

Pelase see chapter 3, pages 31 & 31 for the list of supported optical drives.

Looks like you have a choice of two.

Cheers,

Paul

Re: blu-ray

Not to be a bother, but if you have an opinion I would welcome it,  Do you think I would be better using an external drive like an ASUS BW-12DIS or the LG BE12LU38?  I tried a Pioneer external and the first disk could not be read outside the laptop and the second failed to write.

Thanks,

Andy

Re: blu-ray

Hi, Andy:

I don't really have any working knowledge of blu-ray players, or which is better than which.

I assume you have installed the special software necessary to read and burn blu ray disks?

Re: blu-ray

No problem, yes I did install the software. I suspect it's a hardware problem. Thanks anyway, cheers
