I have a pavilion dv5000.ca notebook with a capacity of 98 GB with only 36.9 GB free. I have to download a program that recommends 1-2GB on the hard drive. What are my options? Can I even upgrade RAM on this model type? Would updating to Windows 7 or Vista make a difference?
specs: p/n EZ538UA, Turion 64, Windows XP Pro service pack 3

Hi:
Below is the link to the product specs page for your notebook.
Your model came with 1 GB of PC2700 notebook memory.
You can upgrade to 2 GB of PC2700 notebook memory, but you would need to remove the existing 2 x 512 MB memory modules and install 2 x 1 GB memory modules.
You should be fine installing the program you need as you are.
You may want to consider archiving some files off the drive that you don't use and store them on a portable hard drive.
Do a disk cleanup and disk defrag.
I would not upgrade to Vista, but I would consider upgrading to Windows 7. According to the specs for your notebook, it should run Windows 7.
I recommend you run the windows 7 upgrade advisor which will examine your PC and report its compatibility with W7.
