Want to change my processor in my hp dv9628nr from the AMD 1.9 ghz S1 to a Phenom II 3 ghz S1 processor. Will this work on my laptop or will it over heat.

Hi:
Below is the link to the maintenance and service guide for your PC.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01951704.pdf
Supported AMD processors are listed in chapter 1 on pages 1 and 2.
According to the manual a Phenom II won't work at all.

It won't work. That processor is not supported by your notebook model. You are limited to the AMD Turion 64 X2 series notebook processors
The following are listed as compatible options.
Turion TL-68 (2.4 -GHz, 1-MB L2
cache)
Turion TL-66 (2.3 -GHz, 1-MB L2
cache)
Turion TL-64 (2.2 -GHz, 1-MB L2
cache)
Turion TL-62 (2.1 -GHz, 1-MB L2
cache)
Turion TL-60 (2.0 -GHz, 1-MB L2
cache)
Turion TL-58 (1.9 -GHz, 1-MB L2
cache)
Turion TL-56 (1.8 -GHz, 1-MB L2
cache)
Athlon TK-55 (1.86-GHz. 512-MB
L2 cache)
Athlon TK-53 (1.7-GHz. 512-MB L2
cache)

You're very welcome.
If you don't have 4 GB of memory installed, you may want to max out the memory.
That is the cheapest and easiest way to get the most oomph out of your PC.
Best Regards,
Paul

If you upgrade the notebook with an SSD drive the performance results are incredible. Stick with the SATA2 and SATA types and not SATA3 for best results. Do a Youtube search for laptop SSD upgrades for more information.
