hp nc6400 battery woes

Hi I got a new aftermarket battery for this laptop and my laptop acts funny as the bat is inserted a message appears   it is safe to remove gigabyte netxtreme adapter and the laptop itself switches from bat to power. The screen brightness changes as  it is set to different brightness on power and battery. The bat does not charge and some time the internet conexion cuts off. I see in device manager every driver is up to date and no question marks.

I have win 7 installed and bios is up to date.

I also tried win xp but the same fate.

Any advice suggestion will be appreciated

I would have to guess that the battery is not compatible with your machine or is bad out of the box. I would think the compatibility is more likely.
