m1190.uk system case advice

I have an old M1190.uk media centre PC that of course no longer cuts it!

But i love the case and the media drive so i want to keep the case, but just change the motherboard

The thing is the motherboard i want is a mini itx motherboard ......GA-E350N-USB3

http://download.gigabyte.ru/manual/mb_manual_ga-e350n-usb3_e.pdf

Will I be able to fit this in the case????

Thanks in advance

Re: m1190.uk system case advice

Without some modification of the motherboard and some concessions on your part it is unlikely to fit.

The I/O backplane will lack a cover to seal the rear of the PC case and the holes in the mini-ITX motherboard will not line up with the holes in the old Media Centre case.

So as long as it's a Micro ATX board??

A Micro-ATX motherboard's holes would line up with the risers in the HP case.So it would indeed fit. The original Puffer motherboard is a Micro-ATX footprint motherboard format.

The backplane I/O would be different and still would not seal. very motherboard has a slightly different backplane I/O. It is not a show stopper. It just lets some dust inside the case which will require cleaning every six months or so anyway.

Re: m1190.uk system case advice

Would'nt the new motherboard come with it's own I/O plate?

Or is the hole where the I/O plate goes on the case bigger than the industry micro ATX standard?

Re: m1190.uk system case advice

Aha! Now you are getting to the meat of the problem..

The OEM HP case is not fitted with a generic I/O backplat shield. It is a propietary shield. That is not the case with PC enclosures that you purchase. The OEM HP Multimedia PC case is propietary not standard.

Re: m1190.uk system case advice

I see

So it will fit but i wont be able to use the motherboard I/O plate?
What about if i just make a custom I/O plate?

The default case I/O comes off right?

Modify it as you please. It is yours.

Re: m1190.uk system case advice

The E45M1-M PRO could be the deal breaker.

This one looks like it should fit ok?

http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_CPU_on_Board/E45M1M_PRO/

Will also give me more room to work around the motherboard in this caseas.

And with a very low need for power I should be able to keep everything else in the case (power supply, media drive, card reader)

Re: m1190.uk system case advice

Yes. It will fit. It only requires the 4-pin CPU connector and standard PSU mobo PWR connector.

That is a nice board. It is uATX Form Factor so the screw holes in the mobo will line up with those in the HP PC case.
