Re: maximum ram

Hi:

According to the notebook specs at the link below, you can add another 2 GB memory chip in the empty slot for a total of 6 GB.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03017255&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...=

May I add that this doesn't make any sense as I always thought memory can be installed in matched sizes (meaning if one slot can hold a 4 GB chip, so should the other).

However the service manual also indicates maximum memory is 4 + 2.

Re: maximum ram

yes i thought that too if you have a 4gb installed you can match it with another 4gb, i already have the 2gb installed to a maximum of 6gb in total but on crucial.com it says the pavilion g6 1257sa can go to a maximum of 8gb 2x4gb, thats why i was asking, but i'd rather take your word than a third party site, thank you so much for your time and rapid response, much appreciated, cartman689

Re: maximum ram

You're very welcome.

4 GB DDR3 memory is relatively cheap.., maybe it is worth the risk to try a 4 GB chip.

Did you run the crucial memory scanner and see what it reports?

Re: maximum ram

You're very welcome.

Please post back after you install it and let us know how it goes.

Then I will be able to definitely tell others with the same question what the real answer is, 'cuz 6 GB max just doesn't add up at all.

If the 8 GB works, as I think it should, not only will you have 2 more gigs, but your memory will now be running in DDR mode. It isn't running in DDR mode with size-mismatched modules.

Re: maximum ram

Hi again Paul, i took the 4gb ram sodimm out my brothers laptop and installed it in mine, I'm happy to report hp user manual has it wrong, the maximum memory for this PC is 8gb, the system recognised it, and the virtual memory recognized the 8gb installed, so you can let others who have the same queries this response, thanks for you rapid response and helpful answers, cheers
