my laptop does not pick up my disk drive

I tried HP Support Assistant, replacing the disk drive with another, Disk Management.. even a full system reboot.

The disk drives have power and opens up when the edject button is pressed, but the my laptop does not show that it is there.

Re: my laptop does not pick up my disk drive

Hi,

I believe it is an optical drive (CD/DVD-ROM) instead of a disk drive (hard drive/disk). Have you installed any software recently?

No, I haven't installed any software recently.. Microsoft update didn't have any updates for it either.

Re: my laptop does not pick up my optical drive

Can you restore the system to an early point?

I have seen some threads about similar issues. You will have to edit registry to make the dvd-rom working. I'll have a look and let you know what to do..

edit: Could you tell us what operating system and model it is, please?

edit2: Try this:

It's probably a software issue with the OS, the registry I guess or maybe some malware. The fastest way how to solve an issue like this is to perform a full factory reset. Backup all data and perform the factory reset using HP Recovery Manager (a recovery partition has to be on the hard drive) or use the recovery disk set which you could create at the first start, buy it from HP or create it using HP Recovery Manager with the recovery partition as the source for it.

Simply you have to reinstall the Operating System..
