processor microcode error message

i replaced a P4 2.4ghz with a P4 3.0 and i'm getting the processor microcode error message at startup.
i have tried many updates to correct the problem. anyone got any suggestions?
here's some hardware info:

HP compaq d330 uT desktop
i get the microcode 1801 error at startup but after F1 the machine runs great
installation of pentium4 3.0ghz caused it.

Did you install the microcode update?
You need a floppy drive and floppy disk to do that. No other method can be used to install the microcode update.
If you did, and you still are getting the microcode update, my assumption is you installed a P4 3.0/800/1M Prescott processor, and those are not supported in your PC.
You are better off installing a P4/3.2/800/512KB Northwood processor sSpec SL6WG.
You won't get a microcode error with that if you have the latest microcode installed, and your PC will run cooler as well.

you're exactly right. i pulled the processor from the motherboard and the numbers match.
i got the processor in the mail yesterday from an ebay seller. it's not the processor i was supposed to get.
i plugged it in anyway and the result is the 1801 error. i guess it's time to figure out what to do next.
