processor upgrade

[ Edited ]

hello,

I got a new HP Pavilion g6-1d08dx Notebook PC and i was thinking of upgrading the processor. First of all is it possible to replace the processor, and can i get a

Intel Core i5-2540M 2.6Ghz 3MB i5 2540M ES PGA 988 Q16P ES Mobile CPU Processor to replace my old one? Also what socket is my computers processor.

Thanks!

Re: processor upgrade

PGA988

The sockets are compatible but this is kind of a crazy quest. The i5 mobile processor is going to cost you well over $200....the laptop you have is a bargain unit and if you had just added another $200 when you bought it you could have had an i5. The same is true now. Sell what you have, add $200 to what you get and buy an i5. That way you avoid voiding the warranty and the risk of destroying the machine while upgrading the processor. Having said that, the processor you want to install was offered on the g6 line so it should work.

Re: processor upgrade

They both have 988 holes and I suspect the processor will fit but these things are very finicky. You must stay with one of the exact processors offered by HP on the model series to be sure of compatibility.
