Hi,

 

Generally, newer BIOS will help in regard to newer hardware, such as new HDD or new RAM running smoothly, speed up booting times, etc... It isn't necessary, especially on a laptop, which isn't readily upgradeable, but it does help to a degree.

Newer BIOS also adds support for some newer CPUs, fixes to stability problems, ..., etc.

Like any software, newer BIOS may introduce bugs therefore sometimes upgrading to newer BIOS can be a nightmare for some.
